Sweden's Highland County Hospital, similar community hospital in the United States, conducted a major restructuring for the integration of care for medical conditions maintained by the Department of Medicine. Each specialization within the Department to a single, co-located unit with its own budget, which covers both inpatient and outpatient treatment. This case examines the experience of the Highland Group Gastroenterology, comparing delivery model for inflammatory bowel disease in 2001 and 2009, before and after the reorganization.
