U.S. health care is now a poor value proposition in relation to its cost. This has to change. Under the influence of the fundamental forces of finance, consumer preferences and technology, the U.S. is heading into a deep revolution in health care, one that will affect not only the system itself, but also the great American business. This new health care system will create great opportunities and great risks in proportion to innovators health. The results of this discussion of health reform will either release or further shackle these innovators. The reforms, which are dependent on the state control is more likely to weaken innovation than is achieved by the control of the consumer, and given the profound implications of the health care reform, the politicians would be well advised to use the power of consumerism in fashioning reform.
