H-E-B: Creating a Movement to Reduce Obesity in Texas Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

In January 2012, HEB Grocery Co., a private retail chain with stores in Texas and Mexico, introduced her to the healthy HEB program for its customers. The program, which began with the staff of a few years ago, there was an attempt to educate and inform customers on how to live a healthy lifestyle. That CEO Craig Boyan had in mind was the creation of a national health movement, living in Texas, where obesity was high compared to other states in the U.S., but how far to go with your employees and customers had a question, the President and Chief Operating Officer Craig Bojan and his team struggled with. On the one hand, Bojan believes that HEB, long recognized his community involvement, the Texans had a role in the health and well-being. On the other hand, he recognized that HEB was primarily a retailer, which was to compete with the likes of Walmart. He had to make sure that HEB has been serving its customers what they want at the same time trying to influence their buying behavior to healthy food. Some would say that HEB had no role in the changing lifestyle and food choices of their employees or customers. But Bojan and his team thought otherwise.
