In 2014, seven years after he was named CEO of the Danish shipping and petroleum conglomerate A.P. Moeller Maersk (the Maersk Group), Nils Andersen was re-examining the size and purpose of the corporate head office in the company that had been reshaped as “premium conglomerate”.

During his time period, Andersen had broken up what had previously been operated as almost a single entity into different lines of business, each responsible for its own performance and anticipated to cope at full arms-length with “sister” businesses, while proportionately decline in the size as well as functions of its head office. However the business units and corporate head office fixed to their new functions, new issues surfaced.
