Businesses and individuals similarly evolved in world that was linear and local. However,we are a part of a world that is global and exponential in nature. The issue, as pointed out by the writers, is that our brains, and thus our perceptual capacities, weren't designed to process at this scale or speed.
Using the example of Kodak's downfall, they demonstrate our heads that are linear literally cannot understand 'exponential progress'. They present a framework called 'the Six Ds of Exponentials', which was created to help today's leaders browse 'the age of exponentials’ and to avoid being disrupted.
