Social Impact Bonds (SIBs) were fast gaining popularity in 2014, as an investment vehicle which joined collectively nonprofits and private investors to tackle societal issues. Although numerous SIB projects and propositions had cropped up across the U.S. following the launch of the first SIB in the UK in 2010, none were explicitly emphasizing on health care.
Fresno, California announced the first health care SIB in 2013 to fund home-based programs to appease asthma attacks. If successful, the Fresno SIB model would help solve the challenge of giving preventative care economically in at risk communities.
