First Look: The Second Annual New Intelligent Enterprise Survey Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

To what extent are managers able to access the information they require? Which are the key challenges, and have the primary company objectives altered? Complete results of the second annual survey are scheduled for publication in the autumn 2011 issue, but this article provides some preliminary findings. A few early results stand out: Just about four in 10 respondents have access to the information they want; almost one-fifth say they have limited or no access to the info to become successful.

The three major challenges people cite in using analytics are the issues of "incorporating internal information across silos," the time and cost of performing analytics along with the dearth of skills to interpret and leverage the data. While the top three business goals organizations mention for using analytics have not changed since this past year's survey, their order of relevance has changed: Last year, respondents said the most crucial aim was "innovating to achieve competitive differentiation;" this year, the No. 1 priority is "growing revenue," followed by "reducing prices and increasing efficiencies." Innovating to attain competitive distinction fell to No. 3, all were told, 2011 survey comprised of 27 questions. The graphs in this sample article symbolize the replies to just eight of those, presented as easy raw data, uncut and clean. In the entire report, the fresh advice will be combined and refined and, most of the time, compared to this past year's data to give readers a snapshot of what is changed since our initial survey as well as the chance to benchmark their organizations in regard to their peers.
