Through the examples they set, the leaders do a lot to shape, for better or worse-culture of the organization in which they serve. Leaders thus serve in a training role. But in order to learn how to set positive examples, leaders also need to be students who want to learn what they can from the examples of others. As a starting point of recent high-profile and multi-faceted scandal of Penn State University and the decision-makers associated with it, this article explores some of the ethical decisions can be learned from this scandal, and considers how these lessons can be applied to different decisions faced by corporate leaders.
