ESSAY ON THE ROLE OF INFERENCES, EVIDENCE AND ASSUMPTION IN OUR BELIEFS Case Solution
The inferences drawn by the individuals regarding the particular idea or belief that it is correct based on minor evidence and assumption created in the mind of the individual could be subject to error. The fear of being wrong enables the individual to create a defensive mechanism by only considering the evidence which they want to take in consideration to prove that their inference or conclusion is correct. Schulz discussed the role of inference, evidences and assumptions in our beliefs, in her book. According to Kathryn Schulz; individuals reached on conclusions and recommendations by considering minor evidences that suited their assumptions or believes. This behavior of human nature is subjected to error because of minor evidence or overlooking the evidence which is against the belief of the individuals or against their minor evidence. Although if counter evidence occurs against the minor evidence considered by the individual then individual should also consider the fact of other evidence and consider it in his conclusion. (Schulz, 2011). The society also plays a significant role in bringing to a conclusion which is based on error. For example women were not allowed to vote in Switzerland until 1971. Although women in Switzerland waited for approximately seven centuries to cast vote in comparison to other countries with an average of 47 years due to societal development. After drawing inferences the individual should also keep a room for improvement in their belief because if they found that what they belief is subject to error then instead of being ashamed that they are wrong they should accept that they are wrong and correct themselves because being wrong is a normal nature of human being which creates a huge and positive role in correcting human thinking which resulted in acquiring wisdom and sense of understanding. (Schulz, 2011)
After analyzing the belief created by human being based on their inferences, evidences and assumptions it is concluded that the evidence and assumptions plays a vital role in drawing inferences that a particular belief which they developed is correct. However considering evidence, assumption and inferences among other factors which are used in constructing belief it is observed that the human being should retain a room for change i.e. prepared them to change their belief if they found that there is error in their belief instead of feeling ashamed or activating defensive mechanism to prove that they are correct when in reality they are subject to error. Due to the adoption of behavior to correct their error or mistakes which constructed a wrong belief in their mind is considered a positive behavior which increased the level of understanding. This increased level of understanding in human nature could enable the individual to correct their belief instead of getting ashamed of being wrong and not changing their erroneous belief about the particular thing. It is indicated after analyzing the role of inferences, evidence and assumptions that being wrong isn’t wrong but being wrong and not accepting what is wrong without learning from mistakes is considered wrong. Although human nature can be subjected to error but learning from these error by acknowledging the factors is an opportunity for an individual to develop better conclusion and correct their errors. It is also concluded that the human nature is subject to error which is normal for an individual and being wrong and accepting it is an example of a healthy and normal mind.........
