The Namaste case is a story of Denise Gardner and Kellogg alumni couple Gary grow their Namaste-branded hair care line from creation at the kitchen table of the family into a formidable $80 million conglomerate within a 14-year phase. The Gardners come from a longtime hair care industry lineage, the Soft Sheen dynasty, in progress by the dad of Gary decades before. Soft Sheen was ultimately sold to hair care giant L'Oreal for over $100 million.
The Gardners claim through listening to the needs and desires of customers for fixing hair care products that reminded them of nourishing home remedies the increase of Namaste occurred. The hair care line became a leader in its industry but faced the dilemma of just how to expand sales in new markets, particularly international markets including South Africa and Nigeria.
