Dean Venky of the newly established School of Engineering and Applied Sciences is confronted with a range of opportunities and challenges as he presides over the introduction of a brand new school of engineering at Harvard University. His chances comprise the potential, a small but elite faculty, and an ample endowment to collaborate with the other schools within Harvard.
His challenges include bringing the finest faculty and students, creating linkages across the university, and establishing a strategy which will make Harvard engineering as well known as its other schools. Students must examine the engineering school's strengths and weaknesses the political challenges of organizational change, and the most suitable strategy for the Dean to follow.
