This article analyzes workplace intimidation from a personal resources perspective. As workplace intimidation comes forth in stressful and unsupportive work environments, the hazard of private resource loss triggers the low cost, high reward resource-seeking behaviours which are usually reported as indicative of bullies in the office bullying research.
We propose that these resource-seeking bullying behaviours let bullies to create fortifying resource gain cycles for them, but also create fortifying resource loss cycles for bystanders and objectives of intimidation. As a possible remedy, we discuss recommendations for organizations to decrease the occurrence of workplace bullying.
