Dogloo and Opportunity Capital Partners Case Solution
In his function as investment professional responsible for the investment in a doghouse manufacturing company called Dogloo of the business, he has to handle a relationship with an entrepreneur who has acted in a way that has made co-investors nervous about his abilities as a CEO. Aurelio Barretto, the CEO, is a Cuban immigrant who has created a confiding relationship with Byrd, who's an African American. Barretto has relied on Byrd to run interference for him with the other company, while supplying the tactical guidance that generally supports an investor-entrepreneur relationship. Another problem is that there's a potentially expensive litigation looming affecting copyright infringement by a bigger, well-financed opponent in the pet products marketplace. Byrd has to handle relationships that are possibly explosive, while discovering how best to guide Barretto to carry on and what is best for his company from an investment point of view. The case also provides advice for pupils and the legal and technical construction of private equity financings.
