Digital Link (A) Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Digital line (A) and (B) cases represent a small public company fighting technology to obtain and maintain an analyst and investor attention during the "dot-com boom" of the 1990s. The case can be used in the classroom MBA or Executive Education. (A) event takes place at a crucial time for digital communications. After 5 years as a public company, the executive team is considering taking the company private. The case describes the history of the company up to this point, and the decision they face. This makes it natural to discuss three key issues: (1) How did they get to this point? In particular, why is it so difficult to maintain coverage of Digital Link analysts and institutional investors' interests? (2) Are they correct, assuming that the lack of attention that big a problem? Why? and (3) What should they do now? This discussion allows students to explore and learn about the importance of the analyst and investor attention firms, problems of production and storage, and the ways in which the company can address it.
