In 2003, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys football team wanted to build a new stadium complex. The existing stadium the team was aging, and the new stadium proposed expansion of potential revenue for one of the leading teams of the NFL. The team wanted the taxpayer help finance the stadium, and the state legislature voted to put the issue before voters. Discussion of the arguments for and against the taxpayer funding of sports facilities and the economics of professional football teams.
