In various industries, such as Chinese and Western managers report that their main difficulty in doing business with each other comes from poor communication. As the Chinese and Western business customs and etiquette differ significantly from each other, it is essential that both groups of business people working to develop some understanding of these differences and how their behavior can be interpreted. This note introduces some of the major differences between Chinese and western methods of communication, and offers strategies for effective communication with respect for cultural differences. While, to some extent, any introductory exposition of culture necessarily based on a certain point of view, the general, in this note are meant to serve as a starting point for understanding how the Sino-Western communication can be facilitated.
