CSIRO was the leading science and research bureau in Australia, and it was chartered to improve national abundance through R&D. Its Mains application was designed to align research interests with a solid concentrate on the adoption of research outputs, with national priorities. The Light Metals Flagship (LMF) was amongst the six mains created in 2003, and its particular aim was to help the state gain more of the extra worth of its resources by improving and commercializing downstream technology in the processing and manufacture of products made from aluminum, magnesium, and titanium.
While the LMF met with technical successes, Australian business was reticent to co-invest. This dearth of industry enthusiasm was in many ways unsurprising, as authorities often found it crucial that you finance long term basic research which was outside of the horizon of companies. However, what type of a sign would discontinuing the software? Was CSIRO prepared to let short term thinking in light metals firms driving its plan?
