Computer Reservation Systems (CRS) vendors are an indispensable role in the tourism industry - from 75% to 80% of all airline bookings made by travel agents using the CRSs. But by mid-1998, their solid position in the industry is in danger of two forces: the web sites run by airlines, which are able to take orders directly from customers, and the new CRS, with the support of travel agencies around the world, called Genesis.
