Limitation of social policy under socialism
Under the socialism, government takes the whole responsibility for the provision of social needs of the citizens, which sometimes creates a negative impact on the efficient working of the country. There are few limitations for these types of social policies, which include; inefficient working of government. As government has the whole responsibility so, there is no one who can evaluate their performance and it would increase the chances of corruption among the politicians. Instead of working for citizens, corrupt politicians keep all the money for themselves. Besides, it could also increase the dependency of the citizens on government. The citizens of the country avoid to work for themselves, which reduces the motivation of contributing something to the progress of the country. Advantages of social policy made under capitalism
Social policy under capitalism structure provides responsibility to the individual citizens to work for the betterment of their own lives, by doing efforts and using their skills. Under this structure, government is not responsible for the provision of basic amenities. Below are the advantages of the social policy under capitalism: (wiley online library , 2018)
Efficient work force
When an individual citizen takes his own responsibility to make his life better, he uses his creative skill and talent to introduce innovative products for the country, which indirectly generates talented workforce and improves the economy of the country.
Reduced dependency on government
Social policy under capitalist structure helps to reduce the dependency on government. Hence, every individual can live his life with freedom and without any restriction. This would motivate the citizens to contribute their skills and talents for the betterment of the country.(ROOS, 1977)
Limitation of social policy under capitalism
In Social policy under capitalist structure, the government is not responsible for the provision of social security to the citizen. This creates some negative impact on the society as well as on the economy of the country. Below are some limitations of the social policy under capitalist structure: (Jakson, 2014)
Increment in the poverty rates
As an individual citizen is responsible for making his life better, it creates gap between the rich and the poor. The people who have money can make their lives better, but the people who do not have money will not be able to make their lives better easily. As a result, this will increase the poverty rate and would indirectly affect the economy of the country.
Increment in crime rates
If the government will not take the responsibilities for the poor or needy citizens, the poverty will increase and so will the crime rate. The poor families wouldn’t be able to fulfill their basic amenities, as a result of which, their needs will force them to conduct criminal activities, such as theft etc.
Increase in illiteracy rate
The literacy rate is positively co-related to the poverty rate. As social policy under capitalism increases the poverty, it will indirectly increase the illiteracy in the country, as the large amount of population will not able to get better education, which will affect the economy of the country negatively.
Conclusion
In conclusion, every social policy has its own advantage and limitation. If the government adopts the mixture of social and capitalism structure for formulating its social policy, it will have some advantages and limitations. But, the limitations will depend on the resources and facilities, which the government would provide to its citizens. Moreover, the advantages and limitations also depend on the way the policy implemented in the country.
