In 2010 he is trying to determine the best way to drive additional growth in an organization which has grown 556 times in less than 30 years, with gains grown 2600 times.
He believes the way CNOOC was managed, a blend of market orientation and concern for the nation and employees has contributed significantly to the success. His challenge will be to allocate resources among new places to develop managers with the ability of leading those businesses in the face of world class competitions, and to explore for petroleum and new sources of energy. Both technical talent as well as the capability to incorporate the attempts of non-Chinese leaders are involved.
