In the month of March 2010, a city in the Southwestern Ontario attained a costing proposition from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The Mayor along with the other city councilors must decide whether to disband its current municipally based Sarnia Police Services (SPS) and replace it with contract policing from the OPP.
The request for the proposal in the City had polarized the entire community and had created much discomfort for the SPS employees. After analyzing the OPP contract proposal, the City planned to make several alterations to the numbers to more closely represent the current level of service provided by the SPS.
