In May 1998, China's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) has launched its online gateway market, www.chinamarket.com. After a month, the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) announced a strategic venture with IBM to develop a central platform of e-commerce in the country.
