Challenges of the 21st Century: Natural Disasters Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Natural disasters are worldwide happenings, with tremendous personal, social and economic impacts, and tangled with other 'big picture' problems. They often cause serious economic loss. Their destructive power is shown by the following graph presented by The Economist. Calamities kill and also displace people and also change how people live. For example, serious drought in main harvest production areas may result in food price increases and food supply shortages. Extreme weather conditions that are extensive and continuous might place global ecosystems and biodiversity at risk. The recent quake and tsunami in Japan in March 2011 raise concerns like the safety of nuclear energy. Other international trends including demographic change, climate change, instruction and technology also connect in some way or another to natural disasters. For instance, climate change might be one of the possible reasons for the recurrent normal disasters. Population growth shove people to exist in coastal regions, making them more exposed to storms and floods.

The problem of natural disasters is complicated and tightly joined with other subjects. The continuing arguments about planning for and reacting to any or all forms of natural disasters are also not simple. So, this technical note cannot seek to completely summarize or clarify the problems that are contentious that are different. What this note does try to achieve, however, is a summary of of crucial facts related to overall trends in their occurrence and the various forms of natural disasters and these problems. In creating this technical note the aim would be to provide a strong backdrop against which to exercise direction on natural disaster-related issues.
