USAID is an agency of the United States government that is working for the well being of people in order to end poverty across the globe. The Beginning of US Agency for International Development
At the times when USAID was coming into action it involved many other foreign organizations with it to work together in order to provide assistance across the globe.Until this time there was not any agency that was charged with foreign economic development, hence after some time an act named Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 was amended and the changes were huge.It was mainly involved in helping the people in education, health, reducing discrimination and economic growth globally.
This transformation was led by the President John F. Kennedy. He presented an idea of uniting and make advanced developments into a single agency that will be responsible for providing assistance to foreign countries in order to economic and social development. Apart from that, US AID came into existence on 3rd November 1961 with a view to innovate and move forward.
America is on the other hand is a developed country and on the basis of this conception American people have made huge contributions in order to reduce the rate of poverty globally. Because of serving the interests of needy people, they will also be able to work for their country in the future. Despite this, after World War, which was ended in 1945 the modern concept of international development assistance came into existence.
Furthermore, during 1947 to 1949 up to a great extent the technical and financial assistance to Europe was provided by George C. Marshall in order to overcome the critical situation that was faced by the European economy after the war took place. This approach was highly welcomed by the European economy because it resulted in the rebuilding of infrastructure, strengthened economy and brought stability overall.
The plan that was introduced by C. Marshall was a huge success, but after that a new international development program was proposed by President Harry S. Truman in 1949. After becoming finalized in 1950 it came up with two main ideas that have to be fulfilled by USAID respectively. Firstly, there was a need to reduce the communism threat by providing assistance to the countries under capitalism, means that the industry and trade will then be controlled by the owners for profits, rather than controlled by the State.
Secondly, to create market in the developing countries for the United States in order to reduce poverty on a wide scale. Hence, from 1952 to 1961 the capital projects and the technical assistance programs that were adopted in good faith were a vital component in U.S foreign policy. As a result the government of the United States established many precursor organizations which included International cooperation administration (ICA), foreign operations, administration (FOA) and Mutual Security agency (MSA).
However, in 1961 the plan was officially accepted and the foreign assistance act was signed by the President John F Kennedy and as a resulted USAID came into existence. But in 1971 USAID started to shift its focus away from capital and technical assistance programs in order to keep its focus completely on fulfilling the basic human needs, which mainly included health, nutrition, planning regarding population, education and human resource development.This shift was highly appreciated because it proved quite beneficial for the well being of many poor people that were not able to fulfill their own and their children's needs, which was ultimately resulting in families starving to death...............................
