Mr. Thompson was appointed general manager of Carmen Canning in Jamaica. He spent his first months of familiarization with the various operations and management practices. Although he had a great experience in the fruit industry in Hawaii, Jamaican situation is quite different. One major concern to him was the overall lack of responsibility shown employees. This is seen, it would seem, the high level of absenteeism. Mr. Thompson decided that after eight months as a manager, it's time for him to do something to improve this situation.
