Cadence vs. Avant! (A) Case Solution
In 1991, four Cadence workers left to form a competitive business, ArcSys (afterwards altered to Avant!). In 1994, a senior Cadence executive, Gerald Hsu, stepped down and joined Avant! This move began a string of legal disputes between the businesses revolving around trade secret protection. Soon after the departure of Hsu, Avant! Continued to hire many Cadence workers, including several programmers that were essential. Additionally, there was evidence that a few of these folks stole some of the most precious source code of Cadence. Some of its employees for breach of trade secret laws. It chronicles the highlights of the market conflict between the companies, the legal fight, and the public relations fight. It also reasons by inquiring what the two CEOs should do in their various places. The principal problems are: what's intellectual property, the best way to protect intellectual property, and the best way to react efficiently to sensed theft of intellectual property.
