Too often, promising strategic plans never come to fruition. Frequent cause of failure is the breakdown in the implementation - internal processes and events required to bring the strategy to life. The results of a large-scale research project, surveying 500 middle managers in five large companies in various industries have led to the foundation for the strategy implementation. Part analyzes the deficiencies and required management responses into four chronological stages of implementation: Pre-implementation, the organization of the effort, managing the implementation process, and the maximum cross-functional characteristics. Managerial levers to address the requirements of these different phases include goal setting and modification of structure, leadership, communication, and incentive systems. The thread that runs through the entire sequence is the need not to lose sight of the middle management, where the emphasis is on customers, competitors and senior management decisions. "Hide
