Disconnected with the KGB in Moscow, Harvard graduate apprentice Bruce Allyn meet high-pressure cooperation approach to employ him for the Soviet spy agency.At the anxious height of the Cold War, with CIA representatives systematically being exposed and executed in Russia, Allyn was playing a part in an odd joint U.S., Soviet study that exchanged linking the two population.
Meeting, going about his doctoral exploring and making friends with Russians, he accepted a low key request from a reliable Russian buddy to meet for lunch on the outskirts of Moscow. Subsequent to hours of wonderful food warm discussion, and unbounded alcohol utilizing a group of Russians, all but one of this group strolled out of the room. Abruptly the lone remaining man, "Vladimir," looked straight at Bruce and stated: "I am a high-ranking KGB officer. I have been commissioned to make to you a proposition." Intoxicated, isolated, and highly vulnerable, Allyn must negotiate with this particular sophisticated KGB counterpart.
To employ Allyn to secretly work for the KGB, the representative tries many tactics: scarcely veiled threats, offers of cash, and the assurance of high level access and Soviet records that would enable Allyn over time to eventually become the top U.S. Sovietologist. Should Allyn acknowledge the offer, the agent constantly worry how Allyn could have a far greater life and much more effectively recover the shared aims of enhancing relations between the two hostile superpowers and plummeting the dangers of nuclear war. Allyn must establish what to do.
