Boeing Australia Ltd.: Assessing the Merits of Implementing a Sophisticated e-Procurement System Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Formed in late 1996, Boeing Australia Ltd (BAL) is a relatively new company and the global expansion of U.S. firms, Boeing Co. BAL developed capabilities in space and communications, website management, as well as updating and maintenance of military aircraft and equipment. As BAL grew, and the old system information is used for internal communications and external customer relationships. BAL, however, faced a difficult decision, as it seeks to modernize its procurement systems and processes to improve operations. In early 1999, a new national job BAL purchasing manager, Russell Menere, whose immediate task was to find the performance gains by improving procurement processes, either through savings or reduce the processing time. To achieve this goal, Menere initiated a number of short-term improvements. These include rationalization of the large number of suppliers BAL, BAL improved relations with its key suppliers, the introduction of credit card purchasing system for low cost, high volume consumables, as well as the adoption of electronic ordering processes with large suppliers in the BAL. In 2002, with new features for e-business technologies, Menere need to decide what the next step should be BAL.
