Even as a young boy in a people of entrepreneurs, Nalls had a standing as a hard worker, but as a substitute of becoming an entrepreneur himself, he built a long career at "the largest company around," GTE. Succeeding years of working there in marketing and sales, he determined to venture outside on his own.

He was equipped by his GTE encounters for some entrepreneurial challenges, but also caused additional difficulties as he tried to begin, build, and grow MASERGY. Four years subsequent to founding the venture, he now believes that he should have "taken the entrepreneurial dip" much earlier in life.
