The founders of B Lab are on a mission to create a new sector of the economy, and are particularly focused on a three aspirations: 1) building a society of Accredited B Corporations (B=Advantage) that legally enlarged their corporate responsibilities to include consideration of diverse stakeholder interests, 2) improving the public policies necessary to create a new corporate type called as the Benefit Corporation, and 3) developing an investment rating system to assist drive institutional investment to the promising asset category of "impact investments."
The case considers the challenges associated with achieving each one among these objects, let alone all three at the exact same time. Is B Lab's tripartite strategy its albatross or its secret sauce?
