"An academic and medical practitioner leaves Harvard Medical School to join the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) as dean of the School of Medicine and vice president of medical affairs. Confronting unmotivated staff, a huge shortfall, a plethora of procedural inefficiencies, along with the chaotic political scenario of the country, he is convinced to turn things around and raise the institution to international standards and position it as the highest medical institution in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
He establishes a new vision of expansion and growth and restructures the management team. Even then, he must confront difficulties related to a deficiency of patient-focused service, tense relations between nurses and physicians, operational inefficiencies, and branding issues. Will AUBMC manage to follow an ambitious growth strategy in the face of an adverse political and financial scenario? Hounaida A. El Jurdi and Nadine A. Yehya are linked with Olayan School of Business.
