Arthur Rock was considered as one of the nation's first venture capitalists and was instrumental in launching major Silicon Valley firms, including Fairchild Semiconductor, Intel Corporation, Apple Computer, Inc., Scientific Data Systems along with Teledyne Incorporation. He was the introductory venture capitalist to be attributed on the cover of Time magazine.
Rock was determined that his success was due to luck and being in the correct spot in the proper time. Others argued in a different way, highlighting in particular his focus on picking the right folks and his unique style of investing. Was this a case of a classic example of the principle: back the perfect people or luck?
