Application of Knowledge and Critical Appraisal of Relational Practice Case Solution
Taking into consideration, the personal experience of nurse-patient interaction is to explain that 47 year old patient had been admitted for a month onto the hospital’s medical floor. According to her, she had been triggered by certain stressful and traumatic events which in turn, caused depression, lack of concentration, sleep disturbance and anxiety. She was a pleasant and quite lady, she had cooperated with the teaching of nurse well. As a novice nurse, I have been focusing to learn clinical skills to deal with acute patients and related technology. I started questioning her about causes of her anxiety, depression, lack of concentration and carcinoma. She told me that she had experience fatigue, fever, and weight loss due to the chronic physical illness because she has been worrying about her family and losing her job.
In addition, my personal objective in brand new environment as novice nurse was to highlight the importance of mindfulness approaches such as meditation, relaxation therapy, and guided meditation walks for the patient along with providing best care. At the time, I concentrated on alleviate feeling of anxiety or depression.
My relational practice with her was quite reflexive and a respectful approach which has reflected the nursing obligations. As a nurse, my sense of responsibility, obligation and caring nature have initiated this process. Not only this, as her husband has been complaining about the noise pollution in the hospital environment, I have contemplated to ensure that the she would not disturbed by environmental noise further because it had last dread and harmful impact on her health and mental state.
I have spent significant time with Patient intentionally, not only this, I have been inquiring her health care needs and life experiences. Finally, I was happy because I have satisfied my obligation towards my work on my best for supporting for her needs related to her health care and organizing her health care.
I felt happy while suggesting biofeedback alternative therapy which would help her in controlling the automatic body functions i.e. such as reactions to anxiety, stress, depression and sleeping disturbance.
Conclusion
All in all, my personal experience led me to contextual understanding of therapeutic nurse-patient relationship, better treatment choice for her, and patient satisfaction of nursing care and arrangement of her healthcare.
After learning the relational practice concept, it is concluded that it is significant that the relational practice has to be started when the contract with patient is initiated. The foremost nursing practice obligation includes authentic, interesting and intentional inquiry about experience of patient and needs of patient’s health care. The relational practices delays might increase the risk of harm and can cause unnecessary stress. Reflexivity assumed to be professional nurses obligation and a nursing practice need. (GH, 2007).
The nursing relational practice is the comprehensive aspect of health care and patient’s needs contained by complex contexts, the patients tend to be subjected to health care and in contrast, nurses are supposed to provide nursing care. Additionally, it is a reflexive technique which aims to investigate about live experiences and needs related to health care of the patients. The relational practice has implication to nursing research, education, and practice.
To sum up, as a relational practitioner, I have learned to be obligated to care all of my patients experiencing trauma, anxiety, and depression. In some facilities, I would rather ensure that patient would not affected by noise or environmental pollution because it would result in anxiety attacks, sleep deprivation and fast heartbeat......
