In early 2005, the South African company Tiger Wheels Limited (Tiger) has established a global presence in the manufacture of aluminum alloy wheels with customers, consisting of several high-quality automotive manufacturers. This was the 10th largest company alloy wheels in the world with a solid balance sheet and net current assets of $ 42 million. Tiger had the opportunity to expand and grow with the potential purchase of a new world-class alloy wheels center in Kentucky, United States half of its appraised value. Kentucky plant came with a significant long-term contract to supply Ford aluminum wheels at competitive prices. For the Chairman of the tiger, it seemed a tempting offer, but the pros and cons of buying the plant should be carefully evaluated by the board. Afrika Korps Tiger is part of the African Tiger case series, which includes the B cases. Series may be taught in the basic course program strategy MBA, to focus the discussion on the portfolio of competencies in the resource-based view of the firm. Cases are also ideal for teaching the elective course on global strategy and executive MBA programs. Ideally, the case and the case of B must be used in order for the two sessions. The programs of the lack of time, instructors may choose to use just in case, as there is enough material in the case to cover the main topics. Important case study topics are: 1) the need to assess the dynamics of the five forces in various segments of the industry, the company plans to reach a larger size and higher growth segments, 2) the importance of the differences between countries in the global strategy, and 3) to include new competencies as a criterion in assessing global opportunities, 4) enforcement on growth as the company became a member of the globalization industry, where its customers are global entities, and 5) the need for a new business model, as the strategy is difficult to include numerous businesses and competencies in many countries.
