In March 2001, the Australian Department of Transport announced the government's intention to privatize Sydney Sydney Airport. This was seen as the culmination of a long-standing program to give up ownership of the federal government and operation of the 23 airports in Australia in search of higher efficiency and better management in the private sector. This case traces the shift in policy and monitors the progress of privatization in the country.
