In 2008 the Supreme Court of India has canceled the 2G spectrum licenses with many local and international companies because of serious irregularities in the procedure for granting the Ministry of Communications. One of the hardest-hit companies was Telenor in Norway Telecommunications Company, which was associated with a local company in a joint venture, Uninor, which were all their licenses revoked. The case provides students the opportunity to appreciate and understand the consequences of the political and legal risks associated with uncertain input markets, such as India, and to develop appropriate coping strategies to create and successfully operate in such markets. The case drives home the importance of political and legal business environmental factors that have an impact on business success.
