The case describes the evolution between 1999 and 2005, an unusual team of innovation in the office of Chief Information BP. Team Leader, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Phiroz Darukhanavala ("I Give") side of the large group and enterprise budget in favor of a small, lean team works closely with the business units of BP. Case, described by several mechanisms established in the office during the early evolution of CTO to promote increased appreciation heads new in technology, construction of communication networks, through which emerging technologies, exploration and tested, as well as providing a structured mechanism for technology transfer. In late 2005, the Advisory Group CIO challenged the chief technology office to "keep reinventing itself." Students were asked to take the role of Daru and suggest new processes and structures to continue the evolution of the office of CTO.
