Owners of Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel planned a grand 4 + star hotel in a great location, just a five minute walk from the airport. It would have 612 rooms, several points of food and beverage, meeting room and the largest ballroom in eastern Bangkok. Property co-owned by three Thai Government and the corporation was created to open on 1 October 2006. Bangkok hotel operator Universal Group hospitality and tourism and recreation French company Accor Group submitted a joint bid for the management contract, when it was opened for tender in September 2004. In February 2005, the owners of the hotel was awarded the management contract with Accor-Universal Management Group. This was after the design of the hotel was completed and construction began. Management therefore, felt that they did not have a significant contribution to the development process. Also, the hotel was built under the key. Thus, the management of the group claimed responsibility for the hotel in April 2006, they found a lot of operational problems arising from the fact that they felt they had a displacement of the hotel, construction and operation.
