Dishonesty and Its Policy Implications Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

The typical approach to reducing dishonesty - increases the likelihood of being caught or the amount of punishment - it is not very effective. The authors argue that the psychologically-oriented approach can be more effective. While standard economic point of view, I think one of the reasons for dishonesty - external mechanisms of reward - and thus emphasizes the probability of being caught and the amount of punishment as the only way to overcome it, the authors reveal three other reasons: they do not only study the dishonest behavior caused external rewards, but dishonest behavior caused by a lack of internal social norms, lack of self-awareness, and self-deception.
