Innovation is as important in services as in manufacturing. However, competing on innovation in services requires a different organizational approach. In relation to innovation in manufacturing, innovation in services has five distinctive features - is: distributed throughout the organization, the liquid that is more durable than the discrete, well related to the hiring and promotion decisions, dependent on the pay and culture firm-wide level, and included on leadership. Basis - both cultural and structural - to compete on innovation in services should work pervasively throughout the organization.
