Founded in 1988 under the chairmanship of Lawrence Fung, Hong Kong Economic Times Group ("HKET Group") began as a publisher of Hong Kong Economics Times (HKET)-the first Chinese language financial newspaper in Hong Kong. Launched when the city's economy was booming, the paper set out to be Chinese language equivalent of the Financial Times and became one of the most prominent financial and business information and services in Greater China. Widely recognized for the quality of the content and leading market status, Hong Kong Economic Times developed in close contact with the economic and business environment of the city, in order to meet the changing needs of the local the business community, such as adding the division of property on the ascent to the real estate market in the early 1990s and the IT section during the dot-com bubble in the mid-to late-1990s. Facing new challenges traditional newspaper industry, as the spread of the Internet, the group HKET responds by focusing on two main factors which are the pillars of its success: diversification and differentiation. With a vision to become a diversified media group, HKET has branched out into publishing, multimedia services, electronic information services, recruitment and training of advertising.
