Business strategies are usually well versed in the identification and analysis of constraints, the author says, but what opportunities? If the ability to see new possibilities is the basis for the creation of innovative projects - be it food, city or business strategy - what we know about the state of contemporary possibilities of thinking? Not much, she says. Business strategy has historically been largely analysis, with relatively little attention paid to the creative aspects of the development strategy. She describes eight ways to illuminate new opportunities come from the history of engineering success. Engineers have long been seen as the main design activity, he says, and managers would be wise to turn to them for creative inspiration.
