DuPont's Patent Donations Case Solution
By December 1998, a brand new plan was provided by an intellectual property executive at DuPont for the 196-year old business. The proposal to give DuPont patents to universities around the US was being checked by the executive. This activity guaranteed considerable monetary gains for DuPont, as they could get considerable tax deductions, and the business could save on fees to keep the patents. However, the question arises that if DuPont make this type of contribution, and in that case, should it offer patents in another area or in the life sciences? Did the plan hold any tactical or tax-related hazards for DuPont?
