Remaking the Rainbow Nation: South Africa 2002 Case Solution

During April 1994, the focus of the whole world was on South Africa. Everyone was a witness to this political achievement. At the back of decades full of oppression, segregation, and repression on racial grounds South Africa saw the end of apartheid after the efforts of African National Congress (ANC), which is lead by the great Nelson Mandela, who rode into power with 63% of the vote in the nation's first racially inclusive election. Eight years after this electoral success, nevertheless, many South Africans are beginning to challenge the changing priorities of the ANC.The market remains fragile, although the political scenario of the state has greatly improved, and some of the most steadfast allies of the ANC are decrying what they view as a change of religion. Thabo Mbeki, Mandela’s colleague and successor as president, must determine how best to maintain it and what democracy means for South Africa.
