In 2015, Didi and Kuaidi, the two top players in China's Internet-based ride-hailing business, merged to form Didi Kuaidi. The combined business represented one of the world's biggest Internet- and smartphone-based transportation service companies, which is valued at about $6 billion. For instance, it invested in and partnered with Lyft, Uber's important challenger in the United States.
