The case describes the existing performance management system at leading business schools in India, National Institute of Management - Central India campus (NIM CI campus). Institution, which is among the 20 best business schools in India, is facing important issues to attract and retain teachers. Director NIM CI campus implemented a block on the basis of measurement and incentive system, which worked positively and allowed the institute to work top academics. However, the leadership of the committee believes that the system outlived its usefulness and the desire to replace it with a more reliable systems that are less vulnerable to abuse. Faculty, however, support the preservation of the existing system. The main objective of teaching this case, to understand the performance management system in terms of the various stakeholders and to develop a structure that meets all the objectives of performance management. The case allows users to understand all the steps in performance and consider the disadvantages at every stage. The role of incentives, and as a tool to improve individual performance and as a mechanism for management control, is also discussed.
