The Hach subsidiary of international science and technology leader Danaher Corporation was about to introduce an advanced handheld water quality testing apparatus: the SL1000 Portable Parallel Analyzer. There were, nevertheless, some critical choices left regarding how best to bring it to market. Olaf Boettger, the Business Unit Manager of Hach's Laboratory Solutions office, needed to choose the exact timing of the launch and the PPA would be priced and marketed. Boettger's decisions would affect a wide range of stakeholders outside and in of the company, and he must carefully consider a series of tradeoffs and concerns.
