Although not a new phenomenon, star CEOs have become more prevalent in the current media-saturated society. Because CEO star is connected with both private and organizational benefits and costs, a better understanding of the nature of celebrity and its effects on both CEOs and their firms is warranted.
Building on the notions of fame and reputation, we develop a two-by-two matrix that describes four types of CEOs; two consist of two and celebrities do not. We also illustrate how the political skill can be used to administer CEO celeb for the gain of the companies and CEOs they direct.
