In December 2007, the economy and international affairs director of the competitiveness cluster, Lyonbiopole, was responsible for the international development of the cluster. Lyonbiopole was one of seven biotechnology clusters in France. Although Lyonbiopole performed very well at the national level, it's visibility as an international cluster of biotechnology was uncertain. However, for its member firms to thrive in a globalized world of biotechnology clusters, the establishment of international relations for the cluster is crucial. That is why the management team has developed a program Lyonbiopole internationalization through alliances with foreign clusters (ie interclusteral unions). By increasing its international visibility and reputation through alliances with global biotech clusters, Lyonbiopole hopes to create a new technological partnership, increase investment and create other kinds of opportunities for member firms.
